About the event
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is aimed at anyone aged 16 and up who wants to be able to recognize that someone is struggling and know how to respond. It covers:
Signs and symptoms of mental illness
Signs and symptoms of substance use
How to interact with a person in crisis
How to connect the person with help
Participants will learn the 5-step ALGEE action plan:
Assess for risk of suicide
Listen nonjudgmentally
Give reassurance and information
Encourage appropriate professional help
Encourage self-help and other support strategies
This is a FREE training. When you register, you will be sent digital materials to do as pre-work on your own prior to the training date. The pre-work takes about 2 hours. On Tuesday, February 20th, there will be a live training online from 9am-3pm. Participants will receive a certificate following the training which is valid for 3 years.
